UMF™ is a quality trademark. The UMF™ grading system appraises natural markers found in Mānuka honey, and assures purity and quality.

In order to receive a UMF™ grading, it must be ensured that Mānuka honey contains the following elements:
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a compound naturally present in the nectar of the Mānuka flower, and is needed to develop MGO.
Methylglyoxal (MGO) is a unique and natural chemical marker that is abundant in high quality Mānuka honey. We have MGO to thank for the antibacterial properties of Mānuka.
Leptosperin is a naturally-occurring compound that can only be found in the nectar of Mānuka and some very closely-related plants. It is one of the best ways to distinguish Mānuka from other honey types.
